Since the beginning of his career, Gregorio Gutiérrez has worked regularly with numerous orchestras and theaters, both in Europe and America. His work as a conductor has never passed with indifference to the public, critics and the orchestras themselves. “And Gregorio Gutiérrez is a director who knows how to work with musicians and understands them. The results are, of course, those of an artist who takes care of the details and dedicates himself heart and soul to the work to be performed, therefore, the public knows how to thank him and applaud him” (Juan Piñera, composer and critic; Havana May 10, 2016).

Since moving his residence to Istanbul (2018), Gutiérrez has expanded his professional projects to work with the main orchestras and theaters in Turkey, as well as with neighboring countries and the Arab world. He also continues his work as Artistic Director of the Canary Islands Religious Music Festival (since 2005), without abandoning his commitments with European and American orchestras and theaters.

He has been Principal Conductor of the City of Oviedo Symphony Orchestra (Spain), Principal and Artistic Director of the Mendoza Philharmonic Orchestra (Argentina), of the Spanish Academic Camerata and the La Laguna Classical Orchestra (Canary Islands) Sinfonietta de Canarias. And he has also been Associate Director of the Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble; and Principal Guest of the Ufa Opera and Ballet Theater (Russia).

As a guest conductor he has worked with a large number of orchestras, such as: National Orchestra of Spain, Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, Córdoba Orchestra, Extremadura Orchestra, Community of Madrid Orchestra, Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, Granada Orchestra, Andalusian Philharmonic Orchestra; National Orchestra of Argentina, Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the University of San Juan (Argentina); Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Dominican National Symphony Orchestra, Minería Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), Cuban National Symphony Orchestra, Oriente Symphony Orchestra (Santiago de Cuba), Holguín Symphony Orchestra, Camagüey Symphony Orchestra, Matanzas Symphony Orchestra ( Cuba), Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra; Moscow Orchestra, Russian Cinematography Orchestra, Ulianov Symphony Orchestra, Lipisk Symphony Orchestra, Yaroslavs Symphony Orchestra, Toms Symphony Orchestra (Russia); Northern Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, Katowice Academy Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra; Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Havana Soloist Ensemble, Gran Canaria Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Virtuosos, Hermitage Orchestra; And a long etcetera. Interested in the training of future professionals in music and the performing arts, he collaborated for five seasons with the Symphony Orchestra of the Canary Islands Conservatory and with the Navarro Forum of Performing Arts and Music.

Maestro Gregorio Gutiérrez has developed an intense career linked to poetry and dance, working for numerous Opera theaters and prestigious Ballet companies. In his repertoire, titles such as Carmen, La Bohéme, Tosca, Barbero de Sevilla, Don Pascuale, Rigoletto, Eugéne Oneguín, La Bella Helena stand out; and the world premieres of “Clara and the Shadows” by Juan Manuel Marrero and “Nevermore” by Yuri Kasparov. Also interested in zarzuela are many titles performed: Doña Francisquita, Barberillo de Lavapies, Adiós a la Bohemia, Verbena de la Paloma, El Juramento, Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente, among others. In the field of dance, the great titles of the Spanish and Western repertoire: El Sombrero de Tres Picos, El Amor Brujo, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Estancias, Pavana Real, Don Quixote, etc.

Attracted by the music of our days, he has given world premieres to works by many contemporary composers. In this sense, it is worth highlighting the absolute premieres of works by Edisón Denisov, Yuri Kasparov, Jesús Villa Rojo, Ramón Barce, Tomás Marco, Laura Vega, Juan Manuel Marrero, José Ma Sánchez Verdú, Ramón Humet, Jorge Muniz, Pilar Jurado, Luis Vázquez del Fresno, Víctor Rasgado, Rodolfo Mederos, Efraín Amador, some of them written and dedicated to Gregorio Gutiérrez.

Gutiérrez has developed interesting work in the field of recordings. For the record market he has published with Naxos, Verso, Karonte and Autor. With works by Piazzolla, Mederos, Villa Rojo and Tomás Marco, among others.

His great vocation for bringing music to unusual audiences has led him to perform countless outdoor concerts in schools, universities, workplaces and prisons. He has directed countless concerts, especially dedicated to children, youth and family audiences. As a result of his cultural concern and awareness of the importance of popular and ethnic music, he has collaborated with numerous musicians of jazz, tango, pop, world music, etc.

The musical training of Gregorio Gutiérrez (Tenerife 1962) takes place between the Superior Conservatory of Music of Tenerife, the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid, and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow, where he studied Symphony and Opera conducting with Maestro Prof. Yuri Símonov.
