Biber’s Rosary Sonatas are one of the masterpieces of the early German Baroque. Completed in the 1670s, this very important collection of violin repertoire was not re-explored until the beginning of the 20th century, specifically 1905, with the revaluation of the early Baroque repertoire, when its musical, technical and conceptual complexity once again caught the attention of scholars and music fans.

It is estimated that they were composed around 1676, and they are known as the Mystery Sonatas, Biblical Sonatas or Rosary Sonatas. Whoever compiled the works introduced at the beginning of each of them a small engraving, made especially for the occasion, with an image alluding to each of the fifteen mysteries, five joyful, five painful and five glorious.
