He has won several prizes in competitions, including the Pablo Sarasate National Prize, the Isidro Gyenes National Violin Competition, the Julio Cardona International Competition in Portugal, the Vittorio Gui Competition in Florence or the Bonporti Baroque Violin Prize in Rovereto (Italy).
Andoni Mercero has conducted, from the position of concertmaster, the City of Granada Orchestra, the Burgos Symphony Orchestra, the Salamanca Baroque Orchestra and the Seville Baroque Orchestra. He is a regular concertmaster of the Baroque Orchestra of Seville, Al Ayre Español and the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra and has been guest concertmaster of the Oviedo Opera, the Accademia Bizantina, I Barocchisti, the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vallés Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Chapel of Madrid, the Cetra Barockorchester Basel and the Kammerochester Zürich. He also regularly collaborates with groups such as Café Zimmermann, le Concert des Nations, le Parlement de Misque, Il Complesso Barocco and The Rare Fruits Council.
Currently, he is director of the Musica Boscareccia group, with which he has recently recorded a CD dedicated to the work of Francesco Corselli.
He also collaborates as a teacher with the JONDE and the Ancient Music Academy of the University of Salamanca. Currently, he is a string quartet teacher at Musikene.
